Red Ribbon Week Album

Red Ribbon Week CD Cover

Since 1988 Nancy Reagan started the Red Ribbon Week. This nation-wide October activity was meant for schools and communities to involve children of all ages to pledge to “Just say No” to drugs and harmful substances. As a veteran school teacher of 39 years, Cordell saw the need for a more spirited student involvement than just wearing bracelets and tying red ribbons around trees. He felt there was a need for a fun song that kids could sing together, relate to, and enjoy. Dedicating himself to that endeavor, he wrote and produced this Red Ribbon Week CD. The purpose of this CD will make Red Ribbon Week funner and more meaningful.

Part of the Red Ribbon Week activities, the kids could be challenged to memorize The Steering Wheel of Life poem located on track 3.

The dedicated leaders and volunteers throughout the United States will be glad they now have The Red Ribbon Week song that kids can sing to.

Students sing the chorus with the Red Ribbon Week CD.

(Chorus:) Red-Ribbon Week is here!
It’s time to pledge and give out a cheer
For a body strong to the end,
A mind without bend.
I choose “Mr. Freedom” to be my friend!!!

(Verse:) There are lots of choices from which to choose. I must be careful so that I don’t lose. I am the boss of me. I steer where e’re I be. My choices, then habits will be the glues!!! (to chorus)

(Bridge:) “Mr. Bondage” is addiction; Slavery is his affliction. Smoking and booze and chew, porn and drugs for you are the tales of Mr. Bondage; they’re not fiction!!! (to chorus twice)

The Steering Wheel of Life

© 1988 – 2011 Words and Music by CordellDHullMusic.com

You are at the steering wheel –
The Steering Wheel of Life.
It’s you who must learn to deal
With your pick of right or strife.

What kind of car will you drive?
You shop amongst the deals.
Will it be shiny and alive
Or a piece of junk on wheels?

If you choose the car of value,
It will matter where you travel.
You’ll avoid the roads that foul you,
Like the bad bumps and the gravel.

If you choose the rusty, old car,
The roads you take won’t matter.
What’s a scratch here and thar
Or some mud that may splatter?

Understand, since before your birth
You are that car you drive.
You decide what is your worth;
You’ll choose where you’ll arrive.

Will you heed the caution signs?
Will you give in to the guys?
You choose your worth that binds.
Will you be foolish or wise?

It’s you who must learn to deal
With your pick of right or strife.
You are at the steering wheel –
The Steering Wheel of Life!
